Forbes recently released a list of the top 15 universities, and this year, the methodology used to rank institutions placed a strong emphasis on return on investment. Consequently, these top universities in the US do more than just provide a good education; they also produce high earners who go on to become successful entrepreneurs and significant figures in their areas.

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

2. Stanford University

4. Princeton University

The fourth-oldest institution in the country, Princeton is a renowned private research university. The university has produced 21 Rhodes Scholars during the past ten years and 18 total alumni who have won the Nobel Prize.

5. Columbia University

Columbia University in the City of New York is a private, Ivy league institution that is located in upper Manhattan. Every year, almost $1 billion is invested in research at Columbia and they also provide  guaranteed housing that is available  for all four years. 6. University of California, Los Angeles

7. Williams College

Williams College, is one of the oldest and most prominent liberal arts colleges in the nation. Williams College adopted an "all-grant" financial aid policy in 2022, making it the first college in the US to do so.  President James Garfield, wealthy investor Herbert Allen Jr., and filmmaker John Frankenheimer are notable alumni.

8. Yale University 

The second-oldest Ivy League school, Yale University is renowned for its highly acclaimed history, economics, psychology, and English programs. The goal of Yale's financial aid program is to keep students from needing loans. Along with three U.S. presidents, the founders of Morgan Stanley, Pinterest, FedEx, Boeing, and the Blackstone Group all completed their undergraduate degrees at Yale.

9. Duke University 

The ninth-largest recipient of federal research funding, Duke spent more than $1.2 billion on research in 2019; a substantial portion of this funding supports life sciences and clinical trials research. Along with former WNBA president Lisa Borders and NBA player Kyrie Irving, Duke has produced billionaires Melinda French Gates and David Rubenstein. Duke promises to fulfill all students' demonstrated financial need, with a total cost of attendance of $81,488, and 64% of students graduate debt-free.

10. The University of Pennsylvania 

This university was established by Benjamin Franklin and has produced a number of noteworthy alumni, including the musician John Legend, the journalist Andrea Mitchell, and the businessmen Elon Musk, Tory Burch, and the former president Donald Trump. The university is committed to providing grants and work-study support to cover 100% of a student's substantiated financial need.

11. Northwestern University 

Northwestern University is a prestigious private university that offers students a leading education across several fields. There are 400 clubs on Northwestern's campus, the Big 10 Wildcats play on the field, and the Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts hosts live events.

12. Rice University 

Rice has a 6:1 student-to-faculty ratio at Rice to ensure a close-knit undergraduate experience. Additionally, there are over 45 research centers, institutions, and consortiums where more than half of the students engage in research.

13. Vanderbilt University 

Located in Nashville, Tennessee, the most popular majors at Vanderbilt University are economics, computer science, and biological sciences. 14. Dartmouth College
