Wood/Moulding:
University Frames prides itself in using the finest hardwood in all of its solid wood frames. Trees are harvested and replanted under strict government guidelines. This plantation approach ensures not only a sustainable resource, but also minimizes any impact on the local ecology. The wood we have selected is universally recognized in the industry as having two highly desirable characteristics: hardness and straight grain. Only after being kiln-dried to achieve an optimum level of moisture content is the wood then milled. All of these factors, when combined, contribute to an extraordinarily high quality moulding. It is milled within very tight tolerances, after which uniform coatings of stain and finish are applied, resulting in a luxurious satin or high gloss finish, destined to retain its elegance for decades.
The moulding is then cut and joined at our facility in Anaheim, California. Frames are assembled by hand, using high quality components.

Matboard
The matboard and mountboard are acid and lignin-free, and are pH neutral to help preserve and protect your document. The bottom border of the matboard is embossed in gold or silver foil with your school’s name, and the top border displays the school’s official seal; this seal may be embossed or, for many schools, an optional medallion may be selected as an added feature. This distinctive medallion, a University Frames innovation, adds a touch of elegance that will shine brilliantly over the years.
University Frames is proud to offer matboard and mountboard manufactured by the following industry-leading professionals:

University Seal:
University Frames offers two options for your school’s official seal or logo: foil embossing or an engraved medallion. Both measure approximately 1.5 inches in diameter. The medallion is then inserted into an opening cut into the matboard to ensure that it lays flush with the matboard. The medallions are offered in two different finishes: 22-karat gold or rhodium plating. Rhodium is a precious metal worth substantially more than silver, and will hold its luster without tarnishing.

Why choose UV Protection?
UV protection reduces fading and other damage caused by UV light over time. Leading authorities on preservation recommend using glazing that blocks at least 97% UV light. Conservation grade glazing products surpass this standard in providing up to 99% UV protection, the maximum level of protection available in the industry.

What factors cause damage to art, photographs and other personal keepsakes?
Indoor and outdoor UV light rays contribute to irreversible damage. Colors may fade and shift and the materials that make up the piece may become brittle or yellow.

Adhesive:
We have taken great care to ensure that the conservation quality materials that we use will help to preserve your document for a lifetime. When you receive your frame, you will see instructions on how to easily insert your diploma in your frame. The adhesive tape that we include in each frame to mount your diploma is Filmoplast P 90.
Filmoplast P 90 is made from a white, tear resistant paper and coated with age resistant acrylic adhesive. Both the adhesive and paper are buffered (pH 8.7 aged) so the tape remains acid-free for decades after application.
